Temple Basin - Day Walk

The view over to Mt Rolleston.

An Easter weekend adventure up to the Temple Basin Ski Club.

  • The walk starts alongside State Highway 73 in the carpark for the Temple Basin Ski Field, on the West side of Arthurs Pass. One hour drive for us from Greymouth

  • 2.1km one way with 500m elevation. Signposted 1.5 hours. It took us 2.5 hours of moving time with a total of 5.5 hours of elapsed time.

  • Claire, Blair, Gracie (8) and Lila (5).

  • Toilets at the top. Rugged underfoot.

This is a great day walk up to the Temple Basin Ski Club. When we first saw the track surface we thought the girls might struggle with how rugged it was, but actually they enjoyed the challenge and it kept them busy, with little complaints (winning!).

The scenery was beautiful, with views stretching out to Mount Rolleston. It was also nice to get a closer look at Twin Creek Falls, that we’ve driven past many times.

Once we made it to the top we cooked up some noodles and had a few nibbles for lunch.

The track was quite busy with people taking advantage of the long weekend and the beautiful weather.

Gracie coming to check out the view of the waterfall.

Lunch spot for today.

Nearly there!

Lollies are a must!

Woo Gracie!

Highlights were the sunny day and the beautiful scenery. It was also interesting for me to have a poke around the Ski Club as I hadn’t been up there since primary school.

No down sides - we were all happy trampers.

Happy tramping,
~ Claire
